Learning to be a better role model- Gilbert Arenas

Remember the mess that NBA Washington Wizard’s guard, Gilbert Arenas, was involved in last month? You can find the full post, pictures and videos about the incident here. Basically, Gilbert stored loaded guns in the Wizard’s locker room, drew a handgun and aimed it at teammate Javaris Crittendon, mocked the incident later on the court by pretending to shoot other teammates, and got on Twitter to yell at Al Sharpton.

After being suspended without pay for the rest of the season, Gilbert has written a letter to his fans published in the Washington Post article Learning to be a better role model. Check out the article. Is it good enough? Of course, he’ll be forgiven and brought back to the team. He is an asset and the franchise has spent a lot of money on him.

Frank Hughes over at Sports Illustrated thinks the apology is a little too late and predictable with a message of it’s all about the kids. I would have had an easier time accepting the apology if it happened 4 weeks ago, before the indefinite suspension and before the $7 million in lost pay. If it is sincere, what must he do to truly send a message of anti-violence?

And why is no one talking about Gilbert’s teammate Javaris Crittendon? Gilbert wasn’t the only one pulling guns in the locker room. Javaris pulled out his own gun that night and recently plead guilty to a weapons charge. Thoughts?
